FIREWOOD & KINDLING

Ellpro Timber Kiln Dried Hardwood.......

The recent increases in consumers switching to log burners brings with it, an increase

in demand for firewood logs. With so much money being spent on installations, customers are understandably very particular about the quality of logs they are prepared to use.

Kiln Dried:

All of our firewood is kiln dried to an average of 18% moisture content.

Unseaseoned wood burns inefficently, it creates excessive smoke as the moisture evaporates. Smoke blackens the glass of the wood burner and worse, creates a build up of creosote in the chimney or liner. This build up requires cleaning more often to prevent a chimney fire. A fire that produces a lot of smoke is not producing a lot of heat which after all, is want we want from our wood burner but more importantly, unseasoned wet logs contibute higher amounts of particulate matter to the air we breath. For a clean efficient burn it is important you only use properly seasoned logs.

Hardwood:

For the best BTU values or "heat output", it is recomended you use hardwood logs.

Hardwood logs by their nature provide you with a much denser log when compared to softwood. This density will give you a longer lasting burn and more radiation of heat from the embers for far longer than softwood.

It will soon become very inconveniant to keep feeding a woodburner with softwood all evening because it burns so quickly. When you consider how long a log store full of hardwood lasts, compared to the same volume of softwood. It is very easy to see the value in choosing a good hardwood species.
